KIGALI, Rwanda — The Rwandan government has declared Monday, March 31, 2025, a public holiday to allow citizens to fully celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which falls on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The Ministry of Public Service and Labour announced the decision, citing Presidential Order No. 062/01 of October 19, 2022, which governs public holidays.

The move has been widely praised by Rwandans, particularly Muslims, who will now have an extra day to rest and celebrate without the pressures of work obligations.

In neighboring Uganda, many citizens have expressed admiration for Rwanda’s commitment to its people’s well-being, and some have called for a similar policy in Uganda.

Rwanda’s decision reflects its emphasis on promoting inclusivity, respect for all faiths and national harmony.
