KAMPALA, Uganda — Thousands of Ugandans, a vibrant mix of yellow, green, and white, filled the Kololo Independence Grounds earlier today to mark the 51st birthday of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba with a high-energy marathon-style run.
The event, drawing participants from various backgrounds, was framed as a display of patriotism, unity, and environmental awareness.
This year’s birthday run, themed “Run for Greening Uganda,” served a dual purpose: celebrating Gen. Muhoozi’s life and leadership while promoting environmental protection through tree planting and green initiatives.
Runners began at Kololo Independence Grounds, embarking on different routes in an event that blended fitness, entertainment, and activism.
Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander of Land Forces, represented the Chief of Defence Forces and participated in the run, symbolizing the army’s support for national causes and solidarity with civilians.
Prominent political figures and public personalities, including former Kawempe North MP candidate Faridah Nambi and Mayor Salim Uhuru, also took part, highlighting the event’s broad appeal.
Participants chanted songs of praise and waved flags and banners, with many openly expressing admiration for Gen. Muhoozi, who also leads the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
For many attendees, the event transcended a simple birthday celebration, taking on a political dimension as several supporters voiced their desire for Gen. Muhoozi to assume a more significant leadership role in Uganda’s future.
“This run is more than just about health or a birthday; it is a reflection of unity, patriotism, and our collective desire to green our nation and support visionary leadership,” one participant said.
The event drew a diverse cross-section of Ugandan society, including children, youth, adults, and the elderly, united by a shared cause. The colorful running vests, emblazoned with the day’s theme, created a strong visual representation of solidarity for environmental conservation and national pride.
This marks the second consecutive year that Gen. Muhoozi’s birthday has been celebrated on such a large scale, with increasing participation and enthusiasm.
