KAMPALA, Uganda — Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) enforcement officers have arrested Ronald Katende, 26, a casual worker, after he was filmed dumping sacks of garbage into a drainage channel.
Authorities said Wednesday that Katende, a resident of Kasule Zone in Makindye Division, had been collecting community waste and illegally disposing of it along Queensway in Katwe, Makindye Division. They added that this practice posed a significant health risk to area residents.
KCCA officials stated they would increase efforts to combat illegal waste disposal and cautioned those who hire individuals to dump garbage in drainage channels to cease the practice immediately.
