From Prison, Besigye Sends Stirring Easter Message of Hope and Reflection

Even behind bars this Easter, veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye found space for spiritual reflection, gratitude, and encouragement, delivering a heartfelt message to Ugandans from Luzira Maximum Security Prison.
In a moving Easter message shared from his place of incarceration, Dr. Besigye expressed deep appreciation to those who have stood by him and others during what he called “a trying season of incarceration.”
“We’re very grateful for all the moral, material, and spiritual support that you have given us over the last month of our incarceration in Makindye Military Prison and Luzira Maximum Security Prison,” Dr. Besigye wrote. “May you be immensely blessed.”
As Christians marked the resurrection of Christ, Besigye found solace in scripture, quoting 2 Timothy 4:22 to emphasize spiritual endurance, grace, and peace amid hardship.
“As we celebrate Easter, we are at peace, in spite of the imprisonment, by the grace of the Lord,” he stated.
The four-time presidential candidate shared that beyond its punitive nature, prison had become a space for introspection and spiritual awakening.
“Apart from the intended punishment, prison offers a great opportunity to meditate, reflect, learn, and have spiritual renewal. Reflection on the current times during the Easter season has been poignant,” he added.
Dr. Besigye wrapped up his message by joining fellow Ugandans in celebrating the end of the Lenten season.
“Allow us to join you in thanking the Lord for the successful completion of this year’s Lent period and to wish you blessed Easter holidays. Happy Easter,” he wrote.
