IGANGA, Uganda — Police in Iganga District have launched a manhunt for individuals who attacked and injured popular Ugandan musician Alien Skin and vandalized his vehicle over the weekend following a Women’s Day celebration.
The incident occurred at Iganga Municipal Council Primary School after Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja had addressed the crowd. The musician, whose real name is Patrick Mulwana, was targeted by angry fans, prompting a police investigation.
Busoga East Police spokesperson SP Michael Kafayo confirmed Monday that authorities are actively searching for the “rowdy and dangerous” individuals responsible for the assault and vehicle damage.
According to police, the unrest began during Alien Skin’s performance when his private security aggressively stopped an enthusiastic fan from joining him on stage. This action angered a portion of the audience, who then began throwing stones.
Alien Skin was quickly escorted off stage to his vehicle, but the crowd followed, pelting the car with stones and causing extensive damage.
Police are relying on eyewitness accounts to determine the exact sequence of events and identify the perpetrators. Conflicting reports suggest the violence may have been sparked either by Alien Skin’s alleged demeaning comments about another musician or by the aggressive handling of the fan by his security.
SP Kafayo assured reporters that police are actively “following up on this matter and investigating the said hooligans and their motive of smashing the musician’s car.”
The attack adds to a series of public incidents involving Alien Skin, whose rise to fame has been marked by controversy and clashes with other artists. Police are now tasked with ensuring such violence does not become a recurring feature at entertainment events.
