The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, on Thursday launched the construction of 1,200 modern housing apartments for police officers at Naguru Barracks in Kampala.
The ambitious project, set to be completed within 12 months, aims to provide officers and their families with dignified and secure accommodation, a crucial step toward improving their welfare.
Speaking at the launch, IGP Byakagaba underscored the importance of efficiency and timely delivery, urging the construction team to maintain high standards and adhere to the project timeline.
“This initiative is a significant step towards improving the welfare of police officers and their families. Together with the police’s top leadership, we are focused on enhancing the overall well-being of the police force, and this project is one of those testaments to that commitment,” he stated.
The construction is being spearheaded by the Police Construction Unit under the Directorate of Logistics and Engineering, with a dedicated team of engineers assigned to ensure the project’s success.
AIGP Dr. Namutebi Hadijjah, the Director of Welfare, Production, and Sports, highlighted the collective effort that brought the project to fruition, emphasizing its impact on the well-being of police personnel.
“Adequate housing is not a privilege—it is a right and a cornerstone of effective service delivery. When an officer lives in secure, decent accommodation, their morale is strengthened, their productivity enhanced, and their loyalty reinforced,” she noted.
Reaffirming the force’s commitment to quality and efficiency, AIGP James Apora assured that the housing project would be completed on schedule and to the highest standards.
With this initiative, the Uganda Police Force takes a decisive step toward addressing longstanding housing challenges, reinforcing its dedication to the welfare and professional growth of its officers.
