The staff of Mezo Noir nightclub, who had been detained in connection with the mysterious death of 23-year-old Martha Ahumuza, have been released after being found innocent following police investigations.
Among those arrested were the bar owner, identified as Grace, her brother Eddie, and several staff members. They had been in police custody since March 20, 2025, as investigations into Ahumuza’s death unfolded.
The nightclub’s management announced their release on social media, alongside an official statement regarding the reopening of the bar.
However, sources indicate that the establishment had already resumed operations last weekend. “Our esteemed clients, following our notice of temporary closure to you, we wish to let you know that following the unfortunate incident, we decided to temporarily close to allow Uganda Police and the relevant justice sector stakeholders to conduct investigations,” Mezo Noir management stated.
The management further revealed that after thorough police investigations, their staff were cleared of any wrongdoing and subsequently released.
“The investigations have found our staff innocent and they have subsequently been released from police custody. Any contrary rumours in the media are false, malicious, unfounded, and please treat them with the disdain and contempt they deserve,” the statement read.
Despite the ordeal, Mezo Noir management expressed their continued sympathy for Ahumuza’s family, mourning the loss of their client. “Our hearts continue to go out to the family and friends of our esteemed client for the loss of such a young and fine soul,” they said.
As the club prepares for its full reopening, the management reassured customers of their commitment to maintaining safety and high standards in the entertainment industry.
“We shall continue to serve you in our usual relished environment of absolute safety and high-end standards in the entertainment industry. We will advise you on the exact date when our doors shall be opened again, but assure you that this will be very soon,” they added.
