Commuters who rely on the Kampala-Mukono train route have been left stranded following the temporary suspension of services due to a railway embankment failure at Namanve.
The Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) announced that train operations along this route will remain suspended from April 6 to April 14, 2025.
URC officials revealed that the damage to the railway track necessitated an urgent intervention.
“We regret to inform our valued passengers that train services between Kampala and Mukono are temporarily suspended due to a track embankment failure at Namanve,” the corporation stated.
The disruption affects all commuter and passenger train services along the route, forcing travelers to seek alternative means of transport.
URC assured the public that their engineers are working to restore the affected infrastructure.
“Our technical team is on-site, working tirelessly to ensure that the repairs are completed as soon as possible,” the statement added.
Despite the inconvenience, URC reaffirmed their commitment to restore operations within the announced timeframe.
“We are committed to ensuring that train services resume safely and efficiently by April 14, 2025,” the corporation reassured passengers.
The corporation apologized for the disruption and appealed for patience.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding during this period,” URC said.
