KIKANDWA, Uganda — Three hundred eighty-four Ugandan police officers from specialized units have begun a month-long training program focused on aligning their operations with the country’s development goals, police said Wednesday.

The officers, drawn from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Forensic Services, and the K9 Unit, will undergo skills enhancement and ideological orientation at the Police Field Force Unit Training Base in Kikandwa, Wakiso District.

The training aims to deepen their understanding of national development programs such as the Parish Development Model, the Subcounty Policing Model, and Emyooga.

Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba officially launched the course, emphasizing the need for officers to possess both practical skills and a clear understanding of the national transformation agenda.

He stated that this will enable the police to not only uphold law and order but also actively contribute to Uganda’s progress.

IGP Byakagaba conducts an inspection of the officers who will undergo training to better align police operations with Uganda’s development agenda.

Senior police officials, including AIGP Tom Magambo, Director CID; AIGP Kafeero Moses, Director Human Resource Development; and ACP Andrew Mubiru, Director Forensic Services, were present at the opening.

The training underscores the police force’s increased emphasis on community-based policing and the active involvement of officers in grassroots socio-economic initiatives.
