KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s Electoral Commission has revised the schedule for displaying the national voter register and special interest group voter registers ahead of the 2025/2026 general elections.
The nationwide display of the national voter register will now take place from April 25 to May 15, 2025, a shift from the previously announced dates of April 17 to May 8, the commission said.
The display of voter registers for special interest groups, including youth, people with disabilities, and older persons, has been rescheduled for April 25 to May 8, 2025.
Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, chairperson of the Electoral Commission, attributed the changes to the need for improved readiness and efficiency.
“The adjustment has been made to ensure thorough preparations and smooth conduct of the exercise,” Byabakama said.
He emphasized the importance of the display period, urging citizens to verify their registration details.
“This is the opportunity for all Ugandans to confirm that their names and particulars are correctly captured on the voters register,” he said. “It is also a chance to identify and report the names of ineligible persons, such as the deceased or those not qualified to vote.”
The period for displaying recommendations from parish tribunals regarding inclusions and deletions will now run from May 16 to May 26, 2025, Byabakama said.
He called for broad public participation, urging eligible voters and stakeholders to take part in the exercise.
“We urge all eligible voters and stakeholders to take part in this critical exercise and follow the guidelines that will be issued. This is our collective responsibility in safeguarding the integrity of the 2025/2026 general elections,” he said.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and collaboration throughout the electoral process, pledging to continue engaging with citizens and partners to ensure a free and fair election
