A total of 118 soldiers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Division have graduated from an intensive ideological orientation course aimed at strengthening their commitment to the Force’s core values and enhancing civil-military cooperation.
The pass-out ceremony, held at the 2 Division Headquarters in Makenke, was officiated by Division Commander Major General Paul Muhanguzi, who praised the soldiers for their dedication throughout the eight-week program.
The cohort, consisting of 109 men and 9 women, marked the ninth intake of the ideological training initiative.
Designed to sharpen political awareness, instill patriotism, reinforce discipline, and foster unit cohesion, the course is part of UPDF’s broader efforts to cultivate a professional, people-focused military.
“The army is not just about combat readiness. Our political and ideological awareness is what makes us a people’s force. It helps us stay disciplined and builds stronger ties with the communities we serve,” said Maj Gen Muhanguzi during his address to the graduates.
He urged the troops to carry forward the lessons learned and embody the values of the UPDF in all aspects of their service.
Three outstanding participants Sgt Ngobi Gerald, WO1 Mutembuzi Erasto, and Pte Achom Sarah Lydia were recognized for their exceptional performance during the course. Each received certificates and gifts in acknowledgment of their excellence.
The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officers and civil leaders, including Deputy Division Commander Col James Kasule, 2 Division Political Commissar Lt Col Remmy Mutabazi, Assistant Superintendent of Police Innocent Yuma, Superintendent Obbo Franco, and Lt Col JKK Menya, Commanding Officer of the 13 Artillery Battalion.
As the UPDF continues to prioritize ideological grounding in its training programs, the initiative at Makenke underscores the Force’s ongoing commitment to developing disciplined, politically conscious, and community-oriented soldiers.
