KAMPALA, Uganda  —Electoral Commission has officially gazetted the application for registration of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a political party backed by veteran opposition leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

General Notice No. 1346 of 2025, published in the Uganda Gazette on May 16, confirms the Electoral Commission’s receipt of the PFF’s application in accordance with the Political Parties and Organisations Act.

The announcement follows months of speculation after reports of the PFF’s formation circulated on social media, which the Electoral Commission initially denied.

The gazette notice states that any objections to the PFF’s registration must be submitted within 14 days.

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who leads the PFF, confirmed on Monday that the registration process was complete and awaiting the official gazette notice.

The PFF was formed by former members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who accused the current FDC leadership of accepting funds from President Museveni.

Headquartered in Kampala, the PFF’s official symbol is a mobile phone handset, and its colors are white and royal blue, representing peace, truth, justice, and clean leadership. The party’s slogan is “Freedom for all, All for freedom.”
