National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, has revealed that his chief bodyguard Edward Ssebuufu commonly known as Eddie Mutwe, has been remanded to Masaka Main Prison under disturbing circumstances.
In a post shared Monday on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Bobi Wine confirmed that the head of his security has been remanded to masaka main prison.
“Our brother Eddie Mutwe has been dumped in Masaka, and remanded to Masaka Main Prison, badly tortured and in great pain.”
Kyagulanyi noted that Journalists have been blocked from covering him.
“Journalists were blocked from covering him.”
Eddie Mutwe was arrested on April 27 in Mukono, where he had gone to attend a friend’s party celebrating his son’s baptism (Hakiika).
Following his disappearance, concern spread rapidly across social media platforms, with many Ugandans demanding to know his whereabouts.
On the night of May 1, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, posted a photo of Eddie Mutwe on social media, claiming he was in his basement learning Runyankole a post that sparked widespread public outrage and confusion.
The arrest and unclear detention of Mutwe drew strong condemnation from human rights organizations, political leaders particularly from the opposition and cultural figures.
They described his detention as illegal and a violation of constitutional rights.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, speaking at the 33rd session of the Lukiiko earlier today, urged the CDF to hand over Eddie Mutwe to the Uganda Police if he has a case to answer.
Mayiga emphasized that due process must be followed, and all Ugandans deserve to be treated with dignity under the law.
