KAMPALA, Uganda — Pope Leo XVI has reassigned Archbishop Luigi Bianco, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, to a new diplomatic post in Europe, the Catholic Church announced.
Archbishop Bianco has been appointed the new Apostolic Nuncio to Slovenia and Apostolic Delegate to Kosovo, concluding his five-year mission in Uganda, according to a statement from the Kampala Archdiocese.
He began his tenure in Kampala in 2019, serving as the Vatican’s official representative and the primary liaison between the Holy See and the Ugandan Catholic hierarchy. His presence was instrumental in strengthening diplomatic ties between the Holy See and Uganda and in guiding the local Church through significant national events.
With his departure, the position of Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda is now vacant. Catholic faithful await the Pope’s next appointment to this crucial role, with the new Nuncio expected to continue fostering the longstanding relationship between the Vatican and Uganda in matters of faith, diplomacy and social justice.
