Prominent Ugandan media personality and sports administrator Cedric Babu Ndilima has passed away following a prolonged battle with a heart complication.

He died at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he had been receiving specialized treatment.

Babu, a well-known figure in Uganda’s entertainment and sports circles, had recently been the focus of a high-profile fundraising campaign aimed at facilitating life-saving surgery in the United Kingdom.

The campaign, launched on social media, sought to raise UGX 1.5 billion (approximately $400,000). However, it was met with mixed reactions from the Ugandan public.

While many rallied in support of the cause, praising Babu’s contributions to the country—especially his efforts in promoting youth development through sports—others questioned the transparency and scope of the appeal.

The online discourse highlighted broader frustrations about Uganda’s health care system and the challenges prominent personalities face when seeking treatment abroad.

Despite the controversy, close friends, family members, and colleagues had remained hopeful, sharing messages of support and urging the public to contribute.

Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated before the surgery could be carried out.
