President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed the significance of disciplined democracy in Uganda, cautioning politicians against employing intimidation tactics and encouraging young people to embrace patriotism and the core values of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Addressing attendees at State House Entebbe, where he chaired the UPDF High Command meeting and the Defense Forces Council meeting, President Museveni underscored the importance of political discipline and respect for democratic processes.
“The NRM advocates for disciplined democracy, eschewing hooliganism and inflammatory rhetoric, to ensure Ugandans can make informed decisions without coercion,” President Museveni stated.
He issued a stern warning to politicians who utilize intimidation to sway public opinion, deeming such behavior un-African.
“Politicians engaging in intimidation tactics must cease this behavior immediately. This is not conducive to African values,” President Museveni cautioned.
The President noted that security agencies are taking the matter seriously and working to curb these practices.
“The security agencies have discussed this issue and are committed to bringing it to an end. Public discourse must be respectful; refrain from using negative language,” President Museveni added.
Turning his attention to the youth, President Museveni urged them to carry forward the NRM’s legacy by embracing its core values.
“I encourage young people to uphold the values of the NRM. The challenge for young people is to understand the pioneers’ vision and carry that legacy forward,” President Museveni said.
He also encouraged them to adopt a spirit of patriotism and national service.
“Additionally, they should embody ‘uzalendo,’ working tirelessly for the betterment of our great nation,” President Museveni emphasized.
