As Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations continue to draw pilgrims from across the country, the Uganda Police Force has joined the faithful in a show of unity and spiritual solidarity.
On May 28, 2025, a delegation from the Uganda Police Force, led by Senior Commissioner of Police John Kamya, took part in evening Mass and novena prayers at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Munyonyo, Kampala. They were joined by senior officers from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), further emphasizing a message of inter-agency cooperation and national unity.
The event began with a vibrant band procession that ushered in hundreds of believers for a moment of reflection, prayer, and spiritual preparation in anticipation of the annual Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations.
According to the Uganda Police, their participation underscores the force’s commitment not only to national security but also to fostering community engagement, unity in faith, and cultural heritage.
Uganda Martyrs Day, commemorated annually on June 3, honors the lives and sacrifices of 45 Christian converts who were executed for their faith between 1885 and 1887. The day is one of the most significant events in Uganda’s religious calendar, attracting thousands of pilgrims to various martyrs’ shrines across the country.
The police presence at Munyonyo highlights their support for peaceful and secure commemorations, while also offering a reminder of the role of law enforcement in promoting national values and shared identity.
