Uganda Airlines, the East African country’s national passenger carrier, on Sunday launched direct flights from Entebbe International Airport to London Gatwick Airport as the East African country seeks to boost trade.

Speaking at a launch ceremony broadcast live from Entebbe International Airport, Jenifer Bamuturaki, chief executive officer of Uganda Airlines, said the new route marks a pivotal milestone in the airline’s journey.

“With today’s departure, we officially transition from our establishment phase to a new chapter of long-term growth and expansion,” she said.

Bamuturaki noted that the airline’s summer schedule, which ends in October, will operate four flights per week.

“The schedules have been carefully designed to support seamless onward connections to Europe and North America. The return leg aligns with our expanding African network, allowing travelers to connect conveniently to cities in the 13 countries that Uganda Airlines serves,” the chief executive officer said.

She said the new route is expected to enhance both tourism and trade between Uganda and Europe.

The airline currently operates routes in Africa, India, and the United Arab Emirates, with plans to expand its network to China.
