A fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Nakawa Union Vision Secondary School, located in Butabika Hospital village, Butabika parish, Nakawa division in Kampala district.
The incident occurred at around 1:00 am and affected a section of the boys’ dormitory block, authorities said.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police has confirmed that the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.
Police Spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango said the police were alerted shortly after the fire broke out and responded promptly.
“Our team from Butabika Police Station arrived at the scene with the fire brigade, and additional reinforcements were dispatched from the fire brigade headquarters to assist in extinguishing the blaze,” said SSP Onyango.
While the full extent of the property damage is yet to be determined, the fire caused significant destruction to part of the dormitory.
According to police, investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“No lives were lost, and we are grateful for that. Our team is continuing with inquiries to get to the bottom of what exactly happened,” Onyango said.
The affected students have been temporarily relocated as authorities assess the damage and continue with their investigations.
