Major General Felix Kulayigye has officially resumed his duties as the substantive Director of Defence Public Information (DDPI) for the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), following a period of leave.
A familiar figure in military communication, Maj. Gen. Kulayigye now reclaims his role at the helm of UPDF’s media relations and public messaging.
Known for his longstanding service and experience, he remains a key voice in articulating the position of the military to both the public and media.
His return was confirmed by Colonel Chris Magezi, who had been serving as acting DDPI since March 2025. Col. Magezi announced the development in a brief message shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Major General Felix Kulayigye Resumes Duties. The substantive Director of Defence Public Information (DDPI) Major General Felix Kulayigye has resumed official duties after a short period away on leave. I have ceased to act accordingly. The general public and media stakeholders are hereby informed,” Col. Chris Magezi wrote.
Despite his temporary role as DDPI, Col. Magezi retained his substantive position as Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a role he continues to hold.
With this handover, the UPDF sees the return of one of its most seasoned public communicators, as Maj. Gen. Kulayigye resumes oversight of the institution’s public affairs.
