In a landmark move aimed at boosting morale and enhancing service delivery, the Inspector General of Police IGP Abbas Byakagaba has promoted 9,294 non-gazetted police officers across the country.
The promotion, which affects ranks from Police Constables to Inspectors of Police, comes as part of ongoing efforts to professionalize and strengthen the Uganda Police Force.
The officers were promoted based on merit, years of service, academic qualifications, and discipline records.
The promotions span all regions of Uganda and are seen as a significant morale booster for the lower ranks of the force, many of whom have served for years without advancement.
The promotion exercise is also expected to address the problem of stagnation within the force, where officers often remain in the same rank for extended periods despite consistent performance.
The Uganda Police Force has been undergoing a series of reforms aimed at rebuilding public trust, addressing corruption, and improving response to crime.
The latest promotions are expected to inject fresh motivation into the lower ranks and signal a renewed focus on internal development and accountability
