The Uganda Police Force has opened an inquiry into the sudden death of veteran journalist Ssekabito Jimmy, a news anchor with CBS Radio, who died early Friday morning after reportedly falling off a boda boda along Rubaga Road in Kampala.
According to a statement released by SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the incident occurred on June 27, 2025, at around 6:00 am, near the Uganda Red Cross Society offices on Rubaga Road.
“Ssekabito Jimmy, 45, a resident of Gayaza-Masaka and an employee of CBS Radio, allegedly fell off a motorcycle. He became unconscious and was rushed to Rubaga Hospital by good Samaritan boda boda riders,” Onyango said.
The police report indicates that Ssekabito was pronounced dead at 6:40 am upon arrival at Rubaga Hospital. Officers were immediately notified and dispatched to the scene.
“The body was examined and showed no external injuries. A death inquiry file was opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death,” Onyango added.
Police have since recorded statements from relatives and transferred the body from Rubaga Hospital to City Mortuary Mulago for a post-mortem examination, as investigations continue to determine the exact cause of death.
In his statement, SSP Onyango conveyed condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and colleagues in the media fraternity.
“The police offer their condolences to the family of Ssekabito Jimmy, mourning the loss of their loved one. May they find strength during this difficult time,” he said.
Ssekabito Jimmy was a respected voice on CBS Radio and has been a prominent figure in Uganda’s media landscape for years. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the journalism community, with many expressing grief and calling for a thorough probe into the incident.
