Nobert Mao has once again been declared President General of the Democratic Party (DP), securing a resounding victory in a tightly contested delegates’ conference held in Mbarara City.

This marks his fourth consecutive term at the helm of Uganda’s oldest political party, extending his leadership to 15 years.

Mao garnered 969 votes, outshining his closest rival, Buikwe South Member of Parliament Dr. Bayiga Michael Lulume, who polled 339 votes. Elia Alitia, the outgoing DP Vice President for Northern Uganda, trailed in third with just 52 votes.

The results were officially announced by the party’s presiding officer, Kennedy Mutenyo, after several hours of intense vote counting and validation.

The declaration was met with cheers from Mao’s supporters, who hailed the outcome as a mandate for continuity and consolidation.

The Mbarara delegates’ conference had been seen as a crucial turning point for the Democratic Party, which has faced internal rifts, defections, and dwindling influence in recent years.
