Residents of Kyogha Central I Village in Bwera Sub-county, Kasese District are in mourning following the brutal killing of their Local Council II Chairperson, Bwambale Gerald, during a violent home invasion in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The 54-year-old leader was reportedly attacked at around 4:03 AM by unknown assailants armed with a gun. According to police reports from the Rwenzori East Region, the thugs stormed Bwambale’s home while he was asleep and opened fire through the door, striking him in the stomach.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the Kasese Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and shared preliminary details about the crime.
“Unknown thugs armed with a deadly weapon (gun) attacked Mr. Bwambale Gerald while he was sleeping in his house. They shot through the door, hitting him in the stomach. The assailants went ahead to rob a flat-screen television and a small phone,” SP Tumushime said.
Police responded quickly and rushed Bwambale to Kagando Hospital in Bwera, where he underwent a minor surgical procedure. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
While the full motive behind the attack remains unclear, initial reports suggest it may have been a targeted robbery. Authorities have since launched an intensive investigation into the case.
“Investigations are ongoing, and we call upon members of the public with any useful information to cooperate with the police to ensure justice is served,” SP Tumushime added.
The tragic death of Bwambale has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many residents expressing fear and outrage over the rising cases of violent crime in the area.
