As Uganda prepares for the reading of the National Budget on Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Uganda Police Force has issued a traffic advisory outlining major road closures and diversions in and around the Kololo area.
The changes will be in effect from 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with several key routes affected.
In an official statement released today, SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police PRO, emphasized the importance of public cooperation to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the high-profile event.
“This traffic plan has been carefully designed to facilitate the smooth movement of dignitaries and ensure public safety during the National Budget reading. We urge all motorists to adhere strictly to the guidelines to avoid unnecessary inconvenience,” SP Kananura stated.
The Police have issued an update regarding alternative routes to be used on Thursday, 12th June 2025, as several roads will be closed to facilitate the National Budget reading at Kololo.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid areas affected by the traffic restrictions.
Roads such as Jinja-Kampala Road, Yusuf Lule Road, and John Babiiha Road will remain open and can be used as alternative routes.
However, access to Kololo will be restricted, with Lower Kololo Terrace and Upper Kololo Terrace closed to motorists. Wampewo Avenue will also be inaccessible at Housing Finance Bank and Kololo traffic lights.
SP Kananura clarified that VVIPS with properly labeled vehicles will be granted access through the Western Gate, where they will park behind the VIP sitting area.
VIPs and select invited guests will enter via the Eastern Gate on Wampewo Avenue. Additional parking will be available at UMI and Hotel Africana.
The Police are calling for the public’s understanding and patience during this time and are deploying officers to manage key junctions and ensure compliance with the traffic changes.
“We understand these disruptions may cause some inconvenience, but they are necessary to ensure the security and success of this national event,” SP Kananura added.
Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and leave early to avoid delays. Emergency and priority vehicles will be given right of way as usual
