The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has named Nathan Nandala Mafabi as its presidential flagbearer for the upcoming 2026 general elections, marking a major shift in the opposition party’s political trajectory.
The decision, confirmed on Wednesday comes after a high-level party meeting where Patrick Oboi Amuriat, FDC’s 2021 presidential candidate, officially stepped down from the race.
Mafabi was backed by party elders in a bid to revitalize FDC’s campaign machinery and reassert its influence on the national stage.
The development is expected to shake up Uganda’s opposition landscape as preparations for 2026 intensify.
