West Nile is mourning the loss of Ambassador Angualia Louis Richard, Uganda’s former envoy to Egypt, who died on Tuesday evening in a fatal motorcycle accident in Arua City.
The crash happened near Abi Farm in Ayivu East Constituency, where Angualia was reportedly riding a Bajaj motorcycle and collided head-on with another rider. He died instantly, according to eyewitnesses at the scene.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, especially in Maracha and Arua, where Angualia was a well-known political figure and former parliamentary candidate.
Angualia contested several times for a seat in Parliament. In 2011, he ran for Maracha County MP but lost to Alex Onzima Adroa.
After the county was split in 2016 into Maracha and Maracha East, he switched focus, contesting the Maracha Constituency seat, where he was again defeated — this time by Hon. Oguzu Lee Denis.
In 2020, he tried again in the NRM primaries for Maracha East, losing to Ruth Lematia Molly Ondoru, who later won in the 2021 general elections.
Despite the electoral setbacks, Angualia remained active in public life. He was widely respected for his diplomatic service in Egypt, where he represented Uganda with distinction.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated soon.
