A tragic road accident involving the convoy of State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahare, occurred in Kagadi District on Thursday, resulting in the death of a boda boda rider and leaving two others injured.
The minister was en route to Fort Portal to attend the Tooro Kingdom’s Annual Youth Conference when the incident happened.
Hon. Barugahare confirmed the accident through a personal statement, expressing both gratitude and sorrow over the incident.
“Thank God for His mercy. Our car was involved in a horrific accident in Kagadi on our way to Fort Portal for the Tooro Kingdom Annual Youth Conference,” the minister stated.
“I’m grateful for our driver’s quick thinking and skillful maneuvers that saved us. Sadly, a boda boda rider lost his life, and two of our people were injured. May the deceased soul rest in peace. My condolences to the family, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
Eyewitnesses say the boda boda rider collided with one of the vehicles in the minister’s convoy as it navigated a sharp bend at high speed.
Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and have since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The minister escaped unharmed, but two members of his team sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby health facility for treatment.
The fatal accident has sparked fresh concern over road safety, especially regarding high-speed government convoys traveling through rural and semi-urban areas.
Local leaders and residents in Kagadi have expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased rider and urged authorities to prioritize safer convoy driving protocols in the future.
As investigations continue, Hon. Barugahare’s message struck a tone of humility and reflection, recognizing both the fragility of life and the responsibility that comes with public service travel.
