Musician Fik Gaza has officially crossed over from the National Unity Platform (NUP) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), signaling yet another high-profile defection of an artist from the opposition to the government.
Fik Gaza was among several youths who met President Yoweri Museveni earlier today during his Parish Development Model (PDM) and wealth creation tour in Wakiso District.
The artist, who has in the past openly aligned himself with the NUP and made multiple appearances at the party’s offices, surprised many by switching sides.
In several past interviews, Fik Gaza had publicly declared his support for NUP and the “struggle” led by Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
However, during today’s event, he appeared in full NRM colors, donning a bright yellow T-shirt emblazoned with President Museveni’s portrait—a clear signal of his political shift.
While a circulating video from the event showed Fik Gaza seemingly struggling to gain the President’s attention, his appearance and body language left little doubt about his new political allegiance.
The switch from chanting “People Power” slogans to echoing “Mzee Tova Ku Main” has drawn mixed reactions from both fans and political observers.
Fik Gaza’s move is part of a growing trend of Ugandan artists transitioning from opposition-affiliated activism to siding with the ruling government.
The NRM has, over the years, increasingly courted youthful influencers and musicians in its bid to maintain relevance among Uganda’s younger population, a demographic that has traditionally leaned toward the opposition.
