The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has announced a planned water supply interruption that will affect Kampala and surrounding areas on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
In an official notice issued on Thursday, NWSC said the disruption is due to planned upgrade works and routine maintenance by the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) at the Ggaba Power Station.
“This is due to UEDCL planned upgrade works and routine maintenance at the Ggaba Power Station. The works are designed to improve power supply to the plant,” said NWSC.
The maintenance will require a TOTAL PLANT SHUTDOWN at the Ggaba Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to a majority of Kampala city.
Areas expected to be affected include Ggaba Road, Munyonyo, Buziga, Makindye-Lukuli, Salaama, Kansanga, Nsambya, Muyenga, Kololo, Nakasero, Kampala CBD, Nakawa, Mbuya, Kyambogo, Mutungo, Banda, Ntinda, Naalya, Najjera, Mulago, Makerere, Kamwokya, Kanyanya, Gayaza Road, Bwaise, Nabweru, Bombo Road, Kagoma, Nakulabye, Namirembe, Mengo, Rubaga, Bulenga, Buloba, Mityana Road, Nateete, Kyengera, Buddo, Nabbingo, Nsangi, Mutundwe, Namasuba, Najjanankumbi, Lubowa, Seguku, and surrounding areas.
NWSC is advising customers to store enough water and use it sparingly, warning that it may take some time for water supply to stabilize after the system is restarted.
“Customers are therefore advised to store enough water and use it sparingly as it takes time for the system to stabilize after a total plant shutdown,” NWSC cautioned.
The Corporation apologized for the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to improving service reliability.
“All inconveniences are highly regretted,” NWSC said.
