Police Probe Disappearance of 10-Year-Old Boy Sent to Buy Thread

The Territorial Police in Nsangi Division have launched an urgent investigation into the disappearance of a 10-year-old boy, Mukwaya Kamada, who went missing last month under suspicious circumstances in Bukomye Cell, Maya, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

According to police, Kamada, a pupil at Ryan Nursery and Primary School, was last seen on June 25, 2025. He had been sent by his stepmother, Namakula Hafuswa, to buy thread from a nearby shop. After purchasing the item for UGX 500, he reportedly went back out to look for the remaining UGX 500 balance — and never returned.

His father, 40-year-old Mukwaya Abdul Semadu, a mechanic and resident of the same area, filed a missing person report after hours of fruitless searching.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“We are actively investigating a disappearance case involving a minor, Mukwaya Kamada. He had been staying with his father and stepmother following the separation of his biological parents,” said Owoyesigyire.

“On the day of the incident, the child was sent to buy Lustic (thread) and was given UGX 1,000. He returned after spending UGX 500 but later went back out to trace the balance. That was the last time he was seen,” he added.

Owoyesigyire noted that despite efforts by both the family and police, Kamada’s whereabouts remain unknown nearly a month later. The incident is being treated seriously, and the search continues.

“We appeal to members of the public who may have any information regarding the whereabouts of Mukwaya Kamada to report immediately to the nearest police station or contact Nsangi Police Division on +256 784 985207,” Owoyesigyire urged.

Police have not ruled out any possibility and say they are pursuing all leads, including interviewing residents and reviewing possible CCTV footage in the area.
