President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to begin a week-long tour of Wakiso District to assess the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), the government’s flagship anti-poverty initiative aimed at moving Ugandans from subsistence to the money economy.

The tour, which kicks off this week, will take the President through several key town councils and sub-counties in Wakiso.

According to a statement from State House, the visit will focus on evaluating the disbursement and use of PDM funds, tracking progress in household enterprise development, and engaging directly with local leaders and beneficiaries to identify challenges in the implementation process.

“President @KagutaMuseveni will resume the Wealth Creation & PDM monitoring tours in Wakiso District this week. The tour will focus on skilling hubs, Emyooga, farmers, infrastructure launches, and public rallies to promote job creation and inclusive development in the country,” statement reads.

This marks the latest stop in the President’s ongoing nationwide monitoring drive, which has already covered Greater Mukono, Greater Masaka, Busoga, and Bunyoro.

In each region, Museveni has called on local leaders to take full ownership of the PDM program and accelerate wealth creation at the parish level.

Under the PDM, every parish receives funding to support organized groups involved in agriculture, agro-processing, trade, and other income-generating activities.

The goal is to stimulate bottom-up development by channeling government support directly to communities.

In Wakiso, the President’s itinerary includes stakeholder meetings, site visits to model enterprises, and testimonials from program beneficiaries.

The engagements will continue through Sunday, July 13, after which the President is expected to issue new directives on how to fast-track the program’s success across the metropolitan region.

The Wakiso tour is seen as particularly significant due to the district’s size, complexity, and strategic role in Uganda’s economic landscape.
