Uganda’s security agencies have stepped up preparations ahead of the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 qualifiers, set to kick off on August 2 at the newly refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
In a high-level inter-agency meeting chaired by Deputy Director of Operations, CP Okosh Simon Peter, officials from various security organs convened to strategize on maintaining law and order during the continental football event.
CP Okosh urged officers to remain highly disciplined throughout the tournament, emphasizing that professionalism, vigilance, and coordination will be critical to ensuring a safe and smooth experience for players, fans, and international guests.
Uganda, as one of the official hosts of the 2025 CHAN tournament, is expected to welcome thousands of spectators, players, and officials from across the African continent.
The qualifiers begin on August 2 and will run through August 29, 2025,hosted by Uganda. Kenya and Tanzania.
CP Okosh also took the opportunity to applaud the security forces for their commendable performance during the recently concluded Martyrs Day celebrations in Namugongo, which attracted large crowds from within Uganda and beyond.
With Uganda under the spotlight aalone of the hosts of one of CAF’s most prestigious tournaments, authorities say security will remain a top priority throughout the month-long event.
Fans attending the matches can expect heightened security checks, visible patrols, and inter-agency collaboration to ensure a safe football atmosphere.
