Tragedy on Kasese Road: Two Killed, Five Injured in Horrific Crash

A fatal road accident in Kasese District’s Katwe Kabatoro Division has left two people dead and five others nursing injuries, police confirmed on Thursday.

The crash happened in Nyaruzigati Village, Kahokya, within Lake Katwe Sub-county, involving a white Isuzu Forward truck (registration UA 614AG) and a yet-to-be-identified motorcycle reportedly carrying passengers.

According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police, the truck driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a corner, leading to the devastating impact.

The victims who lost their lives have been named as Biira Catherine, aged 7, and Jeyles, aged 32.

Five others survived but sustained varying injuries and were quickly rushed to Kagando Hospital in Bwera for emergency care. Those injured include:

-Willy Geoffrey (35), the truck driver, resident of Kidodo Cell

-Kamala Richard (20), passenger, also from Kidodo

-Mbusa Matayo (32), resident of Kirembe

-Bwambale Godwin (26), passenger, resident of Kaberere Village

-Kule Alfred (21), from Kirembe

Both the motorcycle and the truck were towed to Kikorongo Police Station for a mechanical inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.

Nelson Tumushime, the Police Spokesperson for Kasese, stated:

“It is alleged that the driver of the said motor vehicle was over speeding and failed to negotiate a corner, thereby causing the tragic incident. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.”

Police are urging motorists in the region to exercise extreme caution, especially in high-risk areas like corners and rural roads, where speeding can quickly turn deadly.
