The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has issued a public notice urging all electricity users with bypassed, tampered, or illegal connections to take advantage of a nationwide amnesty campaign and normalize their supply before the September 30, 2025 deadline.
The campaign, which began on July 23, is part of UEDCL’s aggressive drive to curb electricity theft, promote safe power usage, and restore integrity to Uganda’s power distribution network. 
Dubbed “Weterezeeee”, the initiative provides a free window for registration and regularization of illegal connections—available daily from 8:00am to 5:00pm at all UEDCL service centers across the country.
“This is a chance for all customers with illegal, bypassed, or tampered meters to normalize their connections,” said Jonan Kiiza, Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL.
“After September 30, enforcement will resume, and offenders will face the full force of the law.”
Electricity users are encouraged to visit the official campaign portal at https://www.uedcl.co.ug/weterezeeee or call UEDCL’s toll-free lines—0800203088, 0800285285, and 0800385385—for guidance on how to regularize their power connections.
Mr. Kiiza emphasized that no penalties, fines, or legal actions will be taken against those who come forward during the amnesty period.
“UEDCL urges all illegal electricity users to take advantage of this normalization window before the law catches up with you,” he warned.
The campaign follows UEDCL’s takeover of electricity distribution duties from Umeme Limited, and comes at a time when the company is working to restore lost supply, expand rural access, and enhance service reliability.
Once the grace period ends, UEDCL will begin full-scale enforcement under the Electricity Act, including disconnections, fines, and possible prosecution for offenders.
The utility company says the campaign is not just about protecting revenue—it’s about promoting safety, fairness, and sustainable access to electricity for all Ugandans.
