In a major step towards enhancing fire safety and preparedness, Safe Pro Fire Services has launched Uganda’s first-ever dedicated fire safety showroom.

Located in Kampala’s industrial area, China Town, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to equip individuals, businesses, schools, and factories with world-class fire safety equipment and training.

With Uganda frequently grappling with devastating fire outbreaks especially in schools and markets the launch of the showroom is a timely intervention.

The space is stocked with a wide range of fire prevention and firefighting equipment, from cost-friendly tools for small businesses to advanced industrial-grade machines.

Speaking at the launch, SCP Eng. Franklin Kugonza, Deputy Director of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services in the Uganda Police, emphasized the critical importance of prevention in reducing fire-related disasters.

“Prevention is always better than the cure,” he stated. “Many times, by the time the population calls us, a lot of damage has already happened. But when private partners like Safe Pro come on board, it helps us ensure that the public is better trained and knows where to access quality equipment. This showroom is a big step in making our work at the fire brigade easier.”

Kugonza also expressed admiration for the quality of equipment showcased.

“Indeed, this country has lacked equipment, but what I’ve seen on display here is all state-of-the-art. If you think investing in fire safety is expensive, try a fire. The cost of ignoring it is far higher—it often results in total loss,” he said.

Safe Pro Fire Services Manager, Monishaa Kothia, echoed the need for public awareness and proper guidance when it comes to fire prevention.

“Many clients come in saying they want to protect their place from fire, but they don’t really know how or what they need. That’s where we come in,” she explained.

“We don’t just sell, we train, we advise, and we build a long-term relationship. Whether you are a one-person company or a 100-person company, our goal is the same: to keep Kampala safe and fire-free,” she added.

Kothia pointed out a recurring issue in the market clients opting for cheap, substandard safety products that fail during real emergencies.

“Previously, people were choosing cheaper options, but during an actual fire, these products fail. That’s why we are committed to offering only certified, multipurpose extinguishers like dry chemical powder and CO2 types and training people on how to use them correctly,” she said.

She also highlighted the surge in fire incidents post-COVID lockdowns, particularly in schools, due to poor electrical installations and overloaded sockets.

“We saw many outbreaks caused by negligence. It’s not just about buying equipment it’s about using it correctly and maintaining safe environments.”

Beyond offering equipment, Safe Pro’s showroom functions as a knowledge hub. They provide on-site training for schools, factories, and businesses, offer annual maintenance contracts (AMCs), and conduct public awareness initiatives.

With fire outbreaks continuing to claim lives and destroy property, this initiative offers hope. And as SCP Eng. Kugonza put it, “A stitch in time saves a thousand.”
