The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has recorded its second-highest non-tax revenue (NTR) performance on record, collecting Shs71.8 billion in the 2024/25 financial year a 9.5% surge from the previous year driven by tech-led service delivery, business formalization, and growing public confidence in the institution’s offerings.

This financial leap was revealed during the latest edition of RG’s Fireplace, a virtual performance review session held on July 25, under the theme “Setting Pace for the New Financial Year.”

According to Mr. Baker Ssebudde, URSB’s Manager for Planning and Research, the performance reflects growing trust in formal registration systems, boosted by increased efficiency and visibility.

“These figures are a testament to our continued investment in digital systems, innovative outreach, and commitment to efficient service delivery,” Mr. Ssebudde said.

URSB’s digital transformation is showing tangible results. Over the past year, the bureau registered 8,408 new companies, Processed over 21,000 business names. The bureau also Logged a 66% increase in security interest notices, indicating rising use of movable assets as loan collateral

A key milestone was the rollout of 61 digital business clinics across Uganda’s regions, which not only boosted formalization but generated Shs3.89 billion in new revenue and brought over 6,000 new businesses into the formal economy.

“These clinics are helping bridge the gap between informal entrepreneurs and the formal economy,” said Mr. Ssebudde, emphasizing the clinics’ impact on credit access and market inclusion for SMEs.

With strong momentum in hand, Deputy Registrar General Mr. Alex Anganya used the Fireplace platform to rally URSB staff around an even more ambitious outlook for FY 2025/26.

“We are setting ambitious targets for the coming year—enhancing efficiency, expanding digital platforms, and ensuring Uganda remains an attractive destination for investors,” he said.

The agency plans to deepen its regional footprint, accelerate technology investments, maintain a customer-first approach to service delivery and support national priorities around private sector growth and ease of doing business

As URSB cements its role at the heart of Uganda’s economic ecosystem, its blend of innovation, inclusivity, and institutional discipline positions it as a critical engine for entrepreneurship and long-term transformation.
