Issa Sekitto Takes Helm as Acting Chairperson of KACITA Uganda

The Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA-Uganda) has announced a new shift in leadership, appointing veteran businessman Hajji Issa Sekitto as the Acting Chairperson of the traders’ body.

His appointment was confirmed on Monday, August 4, 2025, during an Extraordinary Executive Board Meeting held at KACITA headquarters.

According to a statement from Acting Secretary General Baguma Timothy, the board reached a unanimous decision to entrust Hajji Sekitto with the leadership role for a one-year transitional period.

The decision comes as KACITA embarks on an internal reform agenda aimed at strengthening governance structures and improving operational efficiency.

Hajji Sekitto, a prominent voice in Uganda’s business community and a long-serving trade advocate, is expected to bring stability and experience to the position during what the board described as a critical phase for the association.

He takes over from Dr. Thadeus Musoke Nagenda, who has stepped down to pursue political ambitions. The association thanked Dr. Musoke for his service and reaffirmed its commitment to remaining a non-partisan institution.

“The Executive Board calls upon all members, partners, and stakeholders to extend their full support and cooperation to Hajji Issa Sekitto as he steers the Association through this important phase,” the statement read.

KACITA’s leadership change signals a strategic reset as the traders’ umbrella body seeks to reassert its influence in economic policy engagement and membership growth.
