A massive explosion at Buziga Country Resort in Upper Buziga Zone, Makindye Division, Kampala, left three women, including a local leader, nursing serious injuries on Sunday night.
The incident, which occurred at around 8:30 pm on August 24, 2025, has been linked to suspected rash and neglect, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police.
The victims were identified as Hajjat Masitula, 69, Vice Chairperson LC I of Katuso Cell, who sustained severe burns on her back, chest, and lower body; Zahara Nakawesi Kasenene, 39, who suffered burns and a broken left leg; and Mamaram Aisha, who sustained multiple severe burns.
All three were first rushed to Kiruddu Hospital, before two were referred to Nsambya and Mulago hospitals for specialized treatment.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident, saying investigations were underway to establish the cause of the explosion.
“The Police at Kabalagala are actively investigating an incident of suspected rash and neglect that resulted in a massive explosion at the sauna of Buziga Country Resort. The unfortunate incident left three female victims with serious injuries,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that detectives and scene-of-crime officers secured the area, documenting extensive damage that included a partial structural collapse, cracked walls, scattered debris, broken glass, and blood stains.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the explosion inside the sauna was significant in nature. However, the exact cause is yet to be established. Statements have been recorded from witnesses and from the victims themselves,” Owoyesigyire noted.
No arrests have been made so far, and the scene remains cordoned off for a forensic examination.
Police said they will continue working closely with medical facilities to monitor the victims’ conditions and promised to update the public as inquiries progress.
