The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has confirmed August 27–28, 2025, as the official dates for its much-anticipated National Delegates Conference, to be held at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong made the announcement during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters, describing the upcoming conference as a critical milestone in the party’s roadmap to the 2026 general elections.
The conference is expected to culminate in the endorsement of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as both the party’s national chairman and its presidential flag bearer—a move that will further cement his hold on power and extend his four-decade leadership of Uganda’s dominant political party.
Ahead of the main conference, a series of high-level preparatory meetings have been lined up:
August 20–22: The Central Executive Committee (CEC), the party’s top decision-making body, will meet.
August 23: The National Executive Council (NEC) will convene.
August 25: A separate national elective conference for Special Interest Groups will be held.
Todwong outlined a wide eligibility net for delegates attending the Kololo event. These include the party’s top brass, Members of Parliament, East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) representatives, district and sub-county NRM chairpersons, city and municipal division leaders, flag bearers, diaspora branch members, and executives of all party leagues—from Women and Youth to PWDs, Elders, Entrepreneurs, Workers, and Veterans.
In a unique twist, President Museveni, in his capacity as national chairman, will also handpick up to 20 individuals to attend as observers.
Delegates will also elect new members of the Central Executive Committee, shaping the leadership that will drive the party into the next electoral season.
Seen as a powerful show of strength and unity, the 2025 delegates’ conference is set to reset the NRM’s internal machinery, reenergize its base, and confirm Museveni’s continued dominance—both in the party and on Uganda’s political stage.
