The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has formally rolled out President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s re-election portrait and campaign theme, setting the stage for the 2026 presidential race.
Unveiled at the party’s headquarters in Nakasero, Kampala, the campaign theme reads: “Protecting the gains as we make a qualitative leap into high middle-income status.” Party leaders said it signals Museveni’s focus on continuity and economic transformation, positioning Uganda for high middle-income status.
At the ceremony, attended by the NRM’s top brass, 1st National Vice Chairman Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo described the theme as a reaffirmation of the party’s mission.
“This is more than a campaign; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to protecting the development gains Uganda has achieved under President Museveni while strategically advancing the country toward higher economic growth and prosperity,” Kigongo said.
Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, the party’s 2nd Vice Chairperson (Female), linked the message directly to key sectors.
“The theme reflects the NRM’s ambition to consolidate achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and industrialisation while ensuring that the country transitions to a high middle-income status sustainably and inclusively,” Kadaga said.
For Secretary General Richard Todwong, the portrait and slogan are not mere symbols but rallying tools to energise party structures.
“Our focus remains on continuity, stability, and building on the gains of the past decades, while charting a clear path toward a brighter future for every Ugandan,” Todwong emphasised.
With the launch, the NRM signalled the beginning of a countrywide mobilisation drive. Officials said grassroots campaigns and sensitisation programmes will follow in the coming weeks, designed to rally support behind the theme of stability, growth, and national unity.
The unveiling effectively sets the tone for Museveni’s campaign message in 2026, centering on defending past achievements while projecting Uganda into the next stage of economic transformation.
