Chaos erupted at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday evening as disgruntled delegates of the NRM Entrepreneurs League staged protests demanding the resumption of their suspended elections.

Police intervened promptly, arresting at least 10 delegates who were accused of disrupting the electoral process. Security forces, including both police and military personnel, were deployed to restore order.

The elections had been suspended on Monday following a directive from President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM National Chairman, amid allegations of voter bribery and irregularities.

Frustrated delegates, however, said the postponement was proving costly, with many claiming that the facilitation money provided for accommodation was running out.

Their dissatisfaction quickly escalated into demonstrations at Kololo.

Following the arrests, Dr. Tanga Odoi, chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, addressed the delegates, assuring them that the elections would resume as scheduled.

He also urged participants to maintain discipline to ensure a smooth voting process.

The NRM Youth League elections, including positions for youth representatives and flag bearers for Youth MPs, were underway under tight security at the time of reporting.
