The Chief of Staff of the Uganda People’s Defence Air Force, Brig Gen David Gonyi, has cautioned spouses of Air Force personnel against falling prey to divisive political narratives as the country heads toward the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a high-level symposium held at the Air Force Headquarters in Entebbe, Brig Gen Gonyi emphasized the importance of political consciousness and unity among families of military personnel.

He warned against political actors who peddle tribal sentiments and ideologies that threaten national cohesion.

The event, organized by the Air Force Political Commissariat, was designed to instill a deeper understanding of political ideology and national service among the families of soldiers, underscoring their critical role in preserving the integrity and stability of the nation.

Gonyi called on the spouses to mirror the discipline and teamwork exhibited by their partners in uniform, reminding them of the collective effort required in safeguarding national interests.

He also urged them to take full advantage of government welfare initiatives, such as the Presidential Support Fund and education programs targeting children of soldiers and the broader public.

In a message to military families, he discouraged overreliance on costly private services, encouraging the use of quality services provided by military institutions.

During the same event, Lynette Lucy, the Chairperson of the Air Force Soldiers’ Spouses, rallied fellow spouses to be supportive of their partners’ sacrifices.

She noted that decisions made by soldiers are often driven by the broader national good and should be respected at the family level.

The symposium drew participation from senior commanders, directors, department heads, and spouses from different units within the Air Force, marking a strong show of institutional unity and community engagement.
