Police have arrested twelve individuals for allegedly selling fake tickets for the upcoming CHAN2024 match between Uganda Cranes and South Africa.
Addressing journalists at police headquarters in Naguru, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke warned the public against attempting to purchase tickets from unofficial sources.
“There are people who have tried to sell fake tickets. We nabbed 12 and they are now facing the music. We don’t want you to fall victim by thinking you can buy any ticket other than online,” Rusoke said.
He urged fans not to be misled by claims of alternative ways to enter Namboole Stadium.
“If you go into portals and find they are over, don’t be convinced that by any magic or trick you will enter Namboole without an online ticket. We shall not allow you in there, but we shall keep you in safe custody,” he added.
Rusoke also reminded supporters of the importance of arriving early due to expected large crowds.
“The match is going to attract large crowds and, as a security measure, you are advised to come early. Gates will be opened at 3pm. Come early to avoid stampedes,” he said.
Police have reiterated that all tickets must be purchased through official online channels, and anyone attempting to use fraudulent tickets will face legal action.
Uganda Cranes will be seeking just one point in tonight’s match to secure a place in the CHAN2024 semi-finals. The game is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 PM sharp.
