Ugandans Warned: No Money Needed to Join Uganda Prisons Service

The Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) has raised alarm over a growing wave of recruitment scams orchestrated by fraudsters targeting job seekers across the country.

In an official statement, UPS revealed that individuals posing as prison officials have been contacting unsuspecting Ugandans, soliciting money in exchange for positions within the service—a scheme the institution has strongly condemned as fraudulent.

UPS clarified that the legitimate recruitment exercise for warders and wardresses concluded recently, and the selected candidates are already undergoing training. Any ongoing claims of available positions are entirely false and designed to exploit the public.

“There is no money requirement for recruitment into the Uganda Prisons Service,” emphasized Frank Baine Mayanja, Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Service Spokesperson. “It has come to our attention that some fraudsters are calling unsuspecting victims, extorting money for recruitment into UPS.”

Baine further urged members of the public to exercise caution and avoid engaging with such conmen, warning that the service bears no liability for those who fall prey to these deceitful tactics.

“The public is cautioned against falling into the traps of the conmen. UPS takes no responsibility for the victims of this scam,” he stated.

UPS has encouraged the public to verify any recruitment information through its official communication channels. For assistance or inquiries, the public can reach out via the toll-free number 0800144144 or the mobile line +256-772435170.
