Forty Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), their deputies, and assistants have departed for India to take part in a specialized entrepreneur training program aimed at enhancing livelihood generation and driving socio-economic transformation in Uganda.

The training, scheduled from September 18 to October 1, 2025, is being held at the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) in Noida.

Indian High Commissioner to Uganda, Upender Singh Rawat, reaffirmed the enduring ties between the two countries, noting India’s continued commitment to skills development initiatives across the Global South.

“Uganda remains a true friend to India,” said Hajji Yunus Kakande, who further emphasized the strategic importance of the training. “These RDCs are field staff representing the President. Enhancing their skills empowers them to mobilize, oversee security & evaluate gov’t programs in their districts.”

The Office of the President revealed that another 40 slots for training could be offered in future, building on the momentum of the current exercise.

Maj. Martha Asiimwe, Senior Presidential Advisor on RDCs, urged the participants to conduct themselves with integrity during the sessions. “Respect facilitators, follow rules and learn from India’s advanced programs to drive socio-economic transformation back home,” she advised.

This marks the second cohort of RDCs to undergo the training, following an earlier group of 20. Officials say more rounds are planned, underscoring the Uganda–India partnership in skills development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood promotion.
