Deputy IGP Ocaya Tasks Counter Terrorism Officers on Securing 2026 Elections

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, James Ocaya, has underscored the central role of the Uganda Police Force in safeguarding the 2026 General Elections, urging officers to uphold professionalism, teamwork, and visible service to the public.

Speaking on Thursday while officiating the opening of a two-day Counter Terrorism barraza at the Counter Terrorism Headquarters in Naguru, Ocaya reminded the officers that the police remain at the forefront of guaranteeing a secure environment for Ugandans to freely exercise their democratic rights.

“I used the opportunity to remind officers that the Uganda Police Force stands at the forefront of guaranteeing a secure environment for the upcoming elections and ensuring that every citizen freely exercises this democratic right,” he wtote on X.

Ocaya tasked the officers to take personal responsibility in ensuring safety during the electoral process, calling for both individual and community-level participation in securing peace.

He also hinted at the upcoming recruitment of Special Police Constables (SPCs) who will provide additional support during the election period.

He emphasized discipline, leadership, and teamwork, urging officers to avoid unnecessary talk and instead let their actions speak for them.

“I re-echoed the IGPs’ call for leadership and teamwork, urging officers to talk less and instead let their good deeds be seen,” Ocaya added.

The meeting, held under the theme “Strategic Guidance on the 2026 General Elections,” was attended by senior police leaders including the Director Operations, AIGP Frank Mwesigwa, and the Director Counter Terrorism, AIGP David Wasswa Ssengendo, alongside more than 300 senior officers.

The Counter Terrorism barraza is part of ongoing preparations by the Uganda Police Force to strengthen operational readiness, ensure coordination, and reassure the public of security ahead of the 2026 polls.
