police have arrested eight suspects linked to the brazen robbery of UGX 242 million from Give and Take Hardware in Rubaga Division.
The heist occurred on August 22, 2025, at Kakeeka Zone, where a gang of armed men on five motorcycles ambushed Ausi Kisitu, an accountant for the hardware store, while he was transporting the cash to the bank. Fortunately, neither Kisitu nor his rider suffered injuries during the attack.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the arrests came after swift, intelligence-driven investigations. “We reassure the public that such violent crimes will be pursued to their full conclusion, and we commend our officers for the dedicated work that has already yielded results,” he said.
The suspects charged are Steven Bakunda alias Kevin, Robert Atwine Kiiza alias Mzee Lubuto, Brian Andebuni alias Junior Black, Raymond Musuza alias Caesar, Andrew Ssali alias Ande Swag, Stankey Kanyerezi, Andrew Nsubuga, and Aboth Shivan Alecho, who faces charges as an accessory after the fact.
Police recovered UGX 105 million, a motorcycle believed to have been bought with the stolen money, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts from Give and Take Hardware—all positively identified by the victim.
The accused now face charges of aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, and being accessories after the fact to a felony. ASP Owoyesigyire added that investigations are ongoing to trace additional accomplices who remain at large.
The eight suspects are set to appear before Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, September 11, 2025.
