Empaako Jam 2025 Set to Light Up Fort Portal with Culture and Fashion

Fort Portal is preparing for a vibrant celebration of culture, fashion, and music with the Hats and Shorts: Empaako Jam 2025, scheduled from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 14 at the historic Empaako Village.

The festival coincides with the 30th Coronation Anniversary of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the youthful king of the Tooro Kingdom.

Organized by Akili Ya Afrika, this three-day festival promises an exciting mix of live music, traditional performances, fashion showcases, and creative exhibitions, giving both Ugandans and international visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the rich heritage of the region.

At the heart of the festival is the Empaako naming tradition, recognized by UNESCO for promoting unity and social cohesion. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to receive an Empaako name and experience firsthand the Kingdom’s unique customs.

“The Empaako Jam is more than just entertainment. It’s a celebration of culture, creativity, and community,” said Ngonzi Wataba, Principal of Akili Ya Afrika.

Proceeds from the event will support educational projects such as stocking libraries in underserved schools, as well as environmental initiatives like tree-planting to restore local forests.
