The Government has procured brand new vehicles worth UGX 35.2 billion for District Chairpersons, City Mayors, and Municipal Mayors, in a bid to improve service delivery at the local government level.

Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi said the vehicles, mainly Toyota Double Cabin pick-ups, will help leaders effectively reach communities and monitor government programs.

“Government has procured brand new vehicles (Toyota Double Cabin pick-ups) for all District Chairpersons, City Mayors and Municipal Mayors. The first batch of 90 vehicles will be in the country by the end of September 2025, while the last batch is expected in November 2025,” Magyezi stated.

He noted that the procurement was made possible under a supplementary budget passed in April 2025, following a petition from the Uganda Local Government Associations (ULGA) highlighting gaps in service delivery.

Magyezi praised the decision-makers for supporting the initiative.

“We thank H. E. the President, Cabinet and Parliament for appropriating UShs.35.2bn in the supplementary budget in April this year, for this purpose,” he said.

The vehicles will be delivered in two phases, with the first consignment arriving in September and the rest expected in November 2025.
